Family Hostages

40 families have multiple members who were taken hostage on Oct 7. Children and parents, husbands and wives, or siblings. Some have been freed, most have not. Here are 4 families' stories.

BIBAS FAMILY

Kidnapped from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz

  • The family includes father Yarden, mother Shiri, and their two sons, Kfir and Ariel

  • They have all been held hostage for over 6 months now

  • Both Ariel and Kfir are known for their red “ginger” hair, which comes from their grandfather, Yossi, Shiri’s father

  • Yarden is a welder and Shiri is a bookkeeper

  • They are all Israeli-Argentinian dual citizens

  • The family dog, Tonto, whom Yarden had rescued and adopted, was killed on that Saturday. Tonto was an integral part of the Bibas family

  • Shiri’s parents, Margit and Yossi, were also killed on October 7th

  • They are a sweet family always looking to make each other laugh

CUNIO FAMILY

Kidnapped from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz

  • The family includes father David Cunio, mother Sharon Alony Cunio, and their two twin daughters, Emma and Yuli

  • Sharon's sister and niece, Danielle and Emilia, and David's brother and fiancee, Ariel and Arbel, were also kidnapped

  • Sharon, Emma, and Yuli were redeemed alive on November 27th, 2023, during the seven-day ceasefire, while David remains a hostage

  • David is an Electrical Engineer, while Sharon is the Personal Advisor for the Head of Ashkol Regional Council

  • Emma and Yuli are “true kibbutz girls” who prefer trucks and mechanical tools over dolls

  • More relatives, Danielle Alony (Sharon's sister), Emilia Alony, and Ariel Cunio (David's brother) were or still are hostages

  • The Cunio family are all Israeli-Argentinian dual citizens

ZIADNA FAMILY

Kidnapped from work at the Kibbutz Holit Cowshed

  • The family includes father Yousef, sons Hamza and Bilal, and daughter Aisha. Yousef and Hamza remain in captivity.

  • They are from the Bedouin community Ziadna, which is named after their family

  • Aisha and Bilal were redeemed on November 30th, 2023, during the 7 Day Ceasefire

  • Yousef deals with diabetes, which is managed through medication

  • Hamza, who is married with two children, joined his father at the cowshed four years ago 

  • Aisha is engaged and plans to get married after she graduates from high school

  • Bilal loves animals, and has a pet horse and dog

 WEINSTEIN-HAGGAI FAMILY

Kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on their morning walk

  • Judith and Gadi were married, having met when Judith came to volunteer on Gadi's Kibbutz, Ein Hashofet

  • Together, they formed a Jazz band called the Jazz Alliance, and travelled all over Israel together

  • They shared 4 children and 7 grandchildren

  • Gadi and Judith were known for their healthy lifestyle and morning walks around the kibbutz

  • They were a match made in heaven; they were always striving to do good, to be good, and to spread good

  • They both hold U.S. citizenship, and are confirmed deceased, with their bodies still being held hostage
