Abigail was the youngest U.S. citizen held by Hamas, turning 4 years old 2 days before her release. Abigail has two older siblings, MIchael and Amalya. Both of her parents, Roy and Smadar Edan, were killed on October 7th. “Had the character of running out and keeping up with her siblings. She was the one running the house.” (CBS News) She was able to survive by her father using his body to protect her. Abigail was redeemed from captivity on November 26th, 2023, during the 6 Day Ceasefire.

Beinin’s American-born parents migrated to Israel about 50 years ago. Liat is a high school history and civics teacher and mother of three. Once a week, she gives tours at Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial. Her husband, Aviv Atzili, was initially presumed to be a captive hostage, but it was later discovered that he was killed in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7th. Liat was redeemed from captivity on November 29th, 2023, the last day of the 6 Day Ceasefire.

Natalie was born in the Chicago area but lived in Israel with her mother for nearly a decade before returning to the U.S. 17 when kidnapped, Natalie was eventually redeemed with her mother, Judith, 4 days before her 18th birthday on October 24th, 2023. Natalie had just graduated from Deerfield High School in Illinois, deciding to take a gap year to travel and explore her interests in fashion and interior design. “Loved ones describe Natalie and her mother as kind women who are both talented artists in their own right and always willing to lend a helping hand.” (NBC News) Judith and Natalie were redeemed from captivity on October 20th, 2023 through U.S. and Qatari mediation

Judith (Yehudit) was in Israel to celebrate her mother Tamar’s 85th birthday with her teenage daughter, Natalie, during the weekend that they were kidnapped. Judith spent her early life in Israel before settling in Illinois, where she currently lives with Natalie in Evanston. “She kept one foot in the United States and one in Israel, often torn between the communities she treasured in both countries.” (New York Times) It was also stated that “Judith is the kind of person whenever someone needed something in the community, she’d be the first one there.” (NBC News) Judith and Natalie were redeemed from captivity on October 20th, 2023 through U.S. and Qatari mediation

Itay was serving in his first year of IDF military service when he was kidnapped. New York native Ruby Chen, his father, said that “As the middle child, he is the glue of the family.” (Scripps News) Itay was always a big basketball fan, supporting the Lakers over his father’s home-town team, the Knicks. On February 2nd, Itay spent his 20th birthday trapped in some underground tunnel in Gaza

Sagui’s father, Jonathan Dekel-Chen, originally from Connecticut stated that “Sagui is a builder and creator of things, of projects that serve other people. Actually, the morning that he was kidnapped, he was working on a new project converting old airport buses to mobile technological classrooms for Bedouin communities and Jewish communities in the south of Israel. ” (CBC Radio) Him and his wife, Avital, have been together since they were 14 years old. On October 7th Avital was 7 months pregnant with their third daughter, who has since been born in the absence of her father. Sagui is a diehard Red Sox fan with a positive spirit and always looking for ways to drive change.

Hersh was born in Berkeley California, later moving to Israel with his family at 7 years old. Hersh is an older brother to two sisters, Leebie and Orly, and is named after his great-grandfather, as well as a great-great uncle who died in the Holocaust. He had just finished his IDF service in 2023, and was planning to go on a trip on December 27th starting in India and then continuing East. Hersh, a wanderlust just starting to explore the world, has had his dreams postponed since October 7th

Long Island native Omer Neutra is your typical “All-American” kid. A huge New York Knicks fan, Omer always had a passion for sports, captaining both his high school basketball and volleyball teams. He was accepted into Binghamton University, but then decided to take a gap year to do an educational program, where he became so close with his peer group and the country that he decided to stay and volunteer as a lone soldier. Omer is a descendant of Holocaust survivors on both of his parents’ sides. His brother Daniel describes him as "a natural born leader" and "an amazing role model." (CBS News) Omer opted to serve in a tank brigade, partly because he had heard it was among the army’s toughest jobs. (NYT) Omer’s family has been waiting too long for him to come home

Edan was born in Tel Aviv, but grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. Edan graduated from Tenafly High School in 2023, where he was a star on the swim team. He joined the Golani as a lone soldier, “wanting to put in any effort to guard and protect the people of Israel.” (Yael Alexander (his mother), CNN) Mika Alexander, Edan’s sister, calls Edan her best friend and is patiently waiting for the day that they will be reunited. (CNN) Edan was just starting his life, which has been abruptly stopped since October 7th

Gadi Haggai was the husband of Judith Weinstein, another dual American-Israeli citizen who has been killed and is still being held hostage by Hamas. Gadi shares with Judith four children and seven grandchildren. “Gadi knew how to make those around him laugh, and was a musician at heart.” (ABC News) He served as a flautist with the Israel Defense Forces Orchestra and then later became a keen jazz saxophonist. His mother is from Manhattan, while his father is from Detroit

Originally from North Carolina, Keith moved to Israel about 40 years ago where he met and fell in love with his wife, Aviva Siegel, another hostage that was released on November 26th, 2023. “He lived and loved coexistence, working with both Jews and Arabs and treating them all equally.” (Elan Siegel (Keith’s Daughter) on Fox News) Keith also has 5 grandchildren. In an interview with ABC, David Siegel, one of Keith’s three siblings said “He is a kind, soft-spoken, and reflective person…very kind and considerate of others.” Aviva and the rest of the Siegel family have been tirelessly waiting and pleading for the return of Keith

New York born Judith Weinstein is a mother of four, as well as a grandmother to seven. She shares them with her husband, Gadi Haggai, another American-Israeli hostage who has been confirmed dead and whose body is also held hostage by Hamas. "Judy was a poet, entrepreneur, and pursued many initiatives to advance peace in the region. For the past few years she has taught Mindfulness to children and teenagers who suffered from anxiety caused by the ongoing rocket fire from Gaza.” (ABC7 News) Weinstein is the last American woman being held hostage by Hamas who has not been released.
